RE: A Quick Install of the Zenith DTT901 Converter
Does your model have analog pass through?
IF Yes: Then good, enjoy
If NO: E-mail me and I'll send you the work-arounds Then you can ENJOY
I just got the same one a few days ago, but haven't connected it up yet. I asked about the pass-thru feature, and the sales clerk in CC said that the 901 has it, and the identical-looking 900 does not. Make sure you get the 901. They had both, and they were the same price!
RE: Bootable backup drive?
OK, I'm convinced. I just ordered Acronis, and now just need to figure out if it will work with the drive that I bought last week, which is more than just an external drive (Free Agent). I'll have to try uninstalling the FA software, and then see if it will be recognized as just another storage device.
No problem though, as I bought it in Sam's Club, and have months to return it, for any reason. (It's a Seagate 500gb USB hd).
RE: Bootable backup drive?
All great responses, and valuable information. Thank you all.
So should I return the Seagate Free Agent, buy One Touch (to get the boot disk it comes with), AND buy Acronis, or keep Free Agent, and buy Acronis? Free Agent is a USB hard drive with an external power pack, and comes pre-loaded with a little software program which only allows copying 1.) selected files & folders, or 2.) All files & folders, but not applications or op sys. It does not create a bootable drive that could be swapped with the failed system drive.
I'm not sure if Free Agent will let you just used the hard drive as an external drive with a different software program like Acronis.
Keep it coming.
Bootable backup drive?
Is there a way to back up the entire c: drive using Free Agent or MyBook? Not just files & folders, but the entire HD including the O/S? I bought FreeAgent, but it seems only good for backing up user files; not aplications or the op sys.
I'm thinking that in the event of a main drive failure, a full bootable backup would be a lot more useful than just documents and file-folders. That way, all of the installed programs would be backed up too, and would save having to find, re-install, register, etc. all the applications program CD's.
The only one that I found that says it can be done, is ABSplus backup system.
Does anyone here know about this stuff? Thanks for any ideas.
RE: Question on portable hard drive?
I have a SEAGATE Free Agent Desktop external drive. 500 GBytes. I use it to backup the three laptops (just documents and iTunes files) each month.
I like it very much.

This ABSplus backup system claims to do just that.
RE: Clearance issues
it looks like they may have been killed. The cab looks crushed - very sad
Fortunately, the driver, and his 10 year old son escaped with no injury. The canopy came down just on the left edge of the truck. I'm sure it totalled it, but it did not crush it.
A reminder: Watch that overhead clearance!
Although this wasn't a class A RV, it just as well could have been.
Watch that overhead clearance!
FROM SHELBY COUNTY JULY 2, 2008: At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-In on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured. According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank canopy...

RE: Need some help with WinXP startup problem.
The fix was to take the original XP installation disk, (XP was preinstalled, but Dell provided a backup disk), boot from it (F8), and select install. That brings up a menu asking if you want t complete and total re-install, or if you want to (R)epair an existing installation. Selected R, and followed the prompts. Had some doubt about the whole process, as it flagged errors when trying to copy required .dl files, but they must have been ok, as the end result is that it booted up from HD, and works fine. Had to reinstall printer drivers, but otherwise, it's back to working as before.
RE: Splendide Ventless Washers
Vented and ventless ARE the same dimensions, as someone else pointed out. The new 2100 larger capacity vented model is the same same heighth and width (so it also easily would go through the doorway), but is about 1" deeper (front to back dimension). I had no trouble gaining the needed inch in my W/D compartment by simply removing the rear panel, which I needed to do anyway, to install the vent.
Sorry you were deceived by your dealer. I wonder if Splendide could have helped with getting it repaired, bypassing CW. Splendide has a toll-free customer service number.
RE: Need some help with WinXP startup problem.
Rangerdave talked me thru a WinXP (R)epair last evening, and right in the middle of it, we got hit with a severe thunderstorm, and lightning knocked out out power. Well, after the storm, I followed Dave's advice, and the thing is working again.
Thanks Dave, and the rest of you who have posted and pm'd with your ideas. This forum is fantastic because of people like you.
RE: Need some help with WinXP startup problem.
Thanks for the idea. I got the menu, selected safe mode, and it did started just like before. The words "Safe Mode" were in each corner of the screen, but then it presented the blue "Welcome" screen, then gave me the 'OPTION' to log on as Administrator or WJS. I selected Admin, but it did the same old thing. "Loading User Settings; Logging On; Saving User Settings; Logging Off" sequence.
From the F8 menu I then tried Boot from last known working settings, or something like that. Still gave me that same endless loop.
Interesting thing is when I try to startup (not safe mode), I actually get the little happy tune, and see my screensaver picture (but no desktop icons), before it changes to a blue "Welcome" screen, and presents the login icon.
Need some help with WinXP startup problem.
I turned off my desktop computer just before we left for a trip a week ago. I normally don't turn it off from day to day. When we go back home, and I turned it back on, it boots, then starts Windows, but then it gives me a logon screen showing my computer name (WJS). If I click it, it says "Logging On", but then immediately goes to "Saving Settings" and then "Logging Off". This process repeats every time I try to "log on".
As I mentioned, I never even have to "log on". The computer just starts up, and displays the desktop. But not now. I seem to be stuck in an endless loop.
Any ideas of where to start? MS website states that a boot disk/recovery procedures will not help with issues that occur after you see the Windows XP startup (Osloader) screen. So what can I do?
RE: Onan not playing well
How much fuel was in the gas tank? Generator pickup tubes are intentionally set well up from the bottom of the tank, so you cann run your tank out of fuel and leave you stranded. Some pickup tubes are set ridiculously high, maybe 1/3 tank from the bottom. Did you have less than a third tank of gas?
You could try filling the tank and trying the gen, or even connecting a seperate portable tank and see if it runs. That would rule out a clogged pickup tube too.
Maybe someone else has some other ideas.
RE: Tiffin Phaeton
Something about putting the propane tank in the right front corner of the coach just bothers me. Don't think I want a propane tank to take the brunt of a potential accident, and be literally right at the front entrance door to the coach!
What are they thinking?

Nice installation, Chuck. Now tell us where you got that cannister? Can you post a link?
RE: microwave/washer-dryer switch...
If you were to want both on at the same time you would need a 50 Amp system as opposed to the more common 30Amp system where the mfg prevents overloading the 30 A site breaker.
Not necessarily. Winnebago has been including Energy Management Systems on all their motorhomes, including those with 30 amp service, for many years. They do the load-shedding for you, so if you go to use the microwave, and the water heater element is on, it will temporarily drop power from the water heater, so no breakers trip. It monitors a number of other heavy-current draw appliances, including air-conditioners, and sheds them in order of lowest priority first.
It was on my 01 Adventurer (30 amp coach), and it worked flawlessly. Would NEVER have another coach without it.
RE: Made the tire brand decision, long
I followed that same path 2 years ago, and came to the same conclusion. Now, 2 years and 18,000 miles later, I am still happy with that decision.
RE: Why are Kitchen slides so popular?
We have had our kitchen slide Horizon for 5 years, and have had zero problems. Well, I did have to replace the engine alternator a few years ago (100% warranty even though I bought used), but NO trouble with slides or plumbing or anything related to the motorhome.
The water lines, drain hose and even propane line are heavier-duty lines that are run lengthways to the coach, so when the slide moves in and out, there is actually very little movement of those lines.
We prefer the curb-side dinette so much now, that when I replace this motorhome, it will almost certainly be another one.
RE: sales tax when buying out of state?
I don't think so. We've bought a motorhome in Florida and in Iowa, and a couple of automobiles in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and we were never charged a penny sales tax IN THOSE STATES, but had to pay the Delaware tax when we went in to get it registered.
